Giving up regular milk and cereal is not easy for me. It’s what I want for breakfast every single day. Although there will always be carbs in cereal, there are some lower-carb products out there. They are sadly still too high in carbs to have every day, but if you have a craving then here is my review of three low carb cereal products.
Availability: Can be purchased from Amazon, some variations have “subscribe and save” options.
Carbs: Total carbs 13g, fiber 7g, NET CARBS 6g per 1/2 cup (based on vanilla almond, maple pecan and original. Strawberry is 7g net carbs)
Assessment: I have only tried the vanilla almond flavor and I find the serving size reasonable. The cereal is crunchy with added almond slivers and a nice level of sweetness.
Availability: Readily available in supermarkets.
Carbs: Total carbs 19g, fiber 3g, NET CARBS 16g per 3/4 cup
Assessment: A little higher in carbs than the others, but it is SO easy to find in stores. The crispy flakes can be a bit bland – would be great with just a few berries.
Availability: Can be purchased from Netrition.com and I’ve also seen it in some supermarkets – but I found it in the diet section rather than in the cereal aisle!
Variations: French Vanilla, Honey Almond, Apple Cinnamon
Carbs: Total carbs 18g, fiber 4g, NET CARBS 12g per 1 1/4 cup
Assessment: Huge serving size! Light and airy o-shaped cereal.
My favorite milk substitute right now is unsweetened vanilla almond milk. What’s yours?
