Step-by-Step Instructions
- Pick a round platter, board or plate about 10 to 12 inches across (a black one makes the colors pop). Cut the cheddar, bell pepper and cantaloupe into bite-size pieces about the same size as the tomatoes, then pat the cantaloupe and tomatoes dry with paper towel.
- Build the pumpkin: scatter the cheddar, bell pepper, cantaloupe and tomatoes over the whole plate, either mixed at random or in small clusters, packing them in snugly right to the edge.
- Make the face: press the black olives into the orange layer as triangle eyes and a nose, and line up the blackberries in a jagged row for the mouth. Nudge the orange pieces around them so the face stays in place.
- Serve right away with toothpicks on the side. To make ahead, cover the orange layer and chill for up to 4 hours, then add the olives and blackberries just before serving.

Notes
Quantities are suggestions (and what the nutrition is calculated from). Plan on about 3 oz of board food per person when the tray is one snack among several, or 4 to 5 oz per person if it's the main nibble.
Make ahead: cube everything and store the components separately in the fridge for up to 2 days. Assemble the orange layer up to 4 hours ahead, cover and chill, then add the olives and blackberries just before serving.
