One of my neighbors made some sangria recently and I realized a gaping hole in my blog – where was the sangria?!?! To work out how to make the best low carb sangria, I looked up the exact definition:

Sangria is a punch, traditionally consisting of red wine and chopped fruit, often with other ingredients or spirits.”

Although I use red wine in cooking, I don't often drink it, especially not in the summer. So I decided to make a Sangria Blanca – which is made with dry white wine instead of red. After that, I had to decide what else to add. Typical recipes include fruits such as peaches, nectarines, berries, apples, pears, pineapple or lime, and sweetened with sugar and orange juice. Well, berries and lime I could do – for the rest I'd just have to improvise!

But then I remembered the sugar-free sparkling water with pineapple flavor that I used to make my Keto Mai Tai, and knew I could find an orange variety. Brands you could try are Sparkling Ice (Orange Mango flavor), Bubly, La Croix, Simple Truth (Tangerine flavor), Clear Choice, Limitless (Blood Orange flavor), and I'm sure many more. I had a plan – and I hope you love this refreshing summer drink as much as I did!

How to Make a Low Carb White Wine Sangria

Load up a large jug with ice cubes (unless preparing in advance). Add a whole bottle of cold dry white wine (I love Sauvignon Blanc!), slices of lime, lemon, and strawberries, plus a few blackberries and raspberries. At this point it would be traditional to add in a little vodka, but that's up to you!

Finish by adding the orange sparkling water and stir well. Serve immediately to your thirsty guests!

Oh, and if preparing in advance, it can be made up to a day ahead and stored in the fridge. Add the ice to serve. Any longer than that and the berries go a little mushy!

SO refreshing! This is a great drink for anyone who doesn't like super sweet cocktails or mixed drinks. It is more thirst-quenching than just drinking wine, and it's great to make a pitcher of this sangria for a hot day!
