So of course you could just grill a ham steak and place a fried egg on top. But this fun variation means that the egg sits inside the ham, so the two ingredients become one! Don't forget to try the optional addition of cheese, too!
Prepare the ham by using a cookie cutter to remove a circle from the center of the steak. I forgot to measure the cutter that I used but I think it was about 3″ diameter.
Heat up a non-stick skillet (no oil required) and add the ham steak. Cook for five minutes over a medium heat, then flip it over.
Break the egg into the center of the steak, adding just enough egg white to fill the cavity. Continue to cook until the egg white has cooked through, adding a lid over the skillet if necessary to cook the top of the egg.
Serve as a delicious and satisfying breakfast or lunch!
Oh – and if you were wondering about that circle of ham you cut out, well if you're not going to eat it while the steak is cooking like I do, you could save it and chop it up for salads or a wrap filling!
