For this recipe I've used portobello mushrooms – they have so much flavor! But if you prefer a different kind of mushroom then this recipe would work equally well!

How to Make Low Carb Mushrooms with a Sweet and Spicy Sauce
Prepare the mushrooms by cutting them into slices. If you're using smaller mushrooms you may prefer to cut them into quarters instead.
Heat some olive oil in a large skillet and add the mushrooms. Continue to cook over a low-medium heat for about ten minutes, adding more oil if they're looking a little dry.

When the mushrooms are almost cooked, add the sauce. The mushrooms will absorb the flavors so fast!
Season with salt and pepper, then transfer to a serving plate or bowl. Garnish with sesame seeds, sliced green onion, and cilantro leaves.
These mushrooms are a wonderful side dish recipe that have a ton of savory flavor – very umami! You could serve them with grilled meat, or even add low carb noodles to them for a vegetarian entree!

- 12 oz portobello mushrooms
- ¼ cup soy sauce (or tamari)
- 1 tbs sriracha
- 1 tbs low carb sweetener (eg Lakanto or similar)
- salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 green onion, finely sliced, to garnish
- ¼ tsp sesame seeds, to garnish
- cilantro leaves, to garnish
