As you probably know, I don't usually do back stories to my recipes. More often than not, I have an idea, and try it out until I like it. Not much of the “my old Grandmother's recipe” going on here…

However! Back in December I was in London for my dear cousin's significant birthday celebrations, and we dined at a fantastic restaurant in Camden – in an igloo! As well as being (sort of) outside in London in December, the food was very good!

When I tried their Bang Bang Cauliflower I just knew that I had to make my own low carb version. It's taken me a while to get round to it – but I'm SO happy with the results!

For the coating I adapted my “standard” breading recipe that I use in dishes like my low carb chicken tenders. It works SO well with cauliflower!

A traditional Bang Bang sauce involves mayonnaise, sweet chilli sauce, honey, and hot sauce. I decided to cut out the chilli sauce but bulk up the sauce with some canned tomato sauce. The mayo and hot sauce are low carb, so no issues there. Then I added a little low carb honey – but you could always use something like my homemade simple syrup to add just a touch of sweetness in with all the heat.

How to Make Low Carb Bang Bang Cauliflower

To “bread” the cauliflower, beat two eggs in one bowl. Then combine almond flour and flaxseed meal in a second bowl. Cut fresh cauliflower into small to medium florets.

Dip each floret into the egg, shake any excess off, then coat it in  the almond flour mixture. Place each floret on a baking sheet lined with a silicone mat

Roast the breaded cauliflower in a preheated oven for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, make the sauce in a large bowl by combining mayonnaise, canned tomato sauce, hot sauce, and sugar free honey. I'd recommend starting with 1-2 tablespoons of hot sauce, testing for heat, and only adding a third if you prefer it hotter.

Remove the cauliflower from the oven and add them to the sauce. Stir to coat them well.

Return to the oven for another 10 minutes or until the cauliflower is tender.

Serve, garnished with a quick twist of salt and black pepper and some fresh cilantro leaves.
