This is a really simple recipe that doesn't actually need any sweeteners! The ingredients are all sweet themselves to one degree or another, making this refreshing drink both healthy and nutritious. You could enjoy it for breakfast or just for a drink to enjoy at any time of the day!
Want to know how many carbs in blueberries? 50 berries – or 2.3 oz (because there can be quite a variety in size!) contains 8g net carbs. So it's possible to work these tasty little berries into your low carb lifestyle – in moderation.
How to Make a Low Carb Almond and Blueberry Shake
Add fresh blueberries, unsweetened almond milk (I prefer the vanilla flavors) and unsweetened creamy almond butter to a blender jar and use a stick blender to blend until smooth. You could also use a blender but I think the blueberry skins are finer with a stick blender (hand blender, immersion blender – whatever you want to call it!)
Note: Have you tried making your own homemade almond butter?!?
If you *did* want to add some extra sweetness, I'd recommend something like a tablespoon of either homemade simple syrup or Da Vinci Vanilla Sugar Free Syrup (you could even try the blueberry flavor!) – they're both zero carb and you shouldn't need very much!
The shake is refreshing yet thick and creamy all at the same time.

Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- ¼ cup fresh blueberries
- 1 tbs creamy unsweetened almond butter
- low carb simple syrup, optional
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients to a blending jar and use a stick blender to blend until smooth.
- Taste for sweetness and add syrup if necessary.
- Pour into a glass and serve.
