Low Carb Naan Bread - an Indian flatbread recipe to accompany your favorite curry!

I always used to LOVE a good naan bread when eating an Indian curry. So I guess it's surprising that I've waited so long to create a low carb version!  I guess it wasn't until I was making some low carb pull-apart bread from fathead dough that the idea occurred to me.

I'm so glad that I tried it! Fathead dough, by the way, is a cheese-based dough which is pretty high in fat – like the name suggests! Find out more about it in my Ultimate Guide to FatHead Dough!

And yes – this is fathead flatbread!!! LOL.

How to Make Low Carb Naan Bread

To prepare the dough, mix together shredded mozzarella and cream cheese in a bowl. Microwave for about a minute or until it is fully melted, then stir to mix thoroughly.

Let cool for a few moments, then add onion powder, garlic powder, almond flour, a beaten egg, and black pepper.  Note – the photo below shows half the quantity of almond flour required – I added more later!

Mix well – it will be sticky at first but it will soon come together, although you can add extra almond flour if needed.

Knead the dough with your hands until it is smooth, then divide it into two balls. Place each ball onto a sheet pan lined with a silicone mat, and flatten them into the classic naan bread shape – trying to ensure that the thickness is as even as possible.

Bake in a preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown.

To serve, brush each low carb naan with melted butter, then sprinkle with chopped fresh cilantro.

This naan bread has a great balance of flavors – although you can definitely taste the cheese! It's the perfect way to mop up the last bit of sauce from a low carb chicken korma or a low carb saag paneer! Or dip it in some homemade cilantro chutney or low carb raita!
