I have made Parmesan crisps since I started a low carb diet back in 2008! In fact one of the first posts on this blog was Parmesan Crisps Five Different Ways. Plus I've also made “Everything” Parmesan Crisps with a delicious addition of poppy seeds, garlic powder, and sesame seeds! They're also a great replacement for croutons in my low carb Caesar salad – who needs bread?!??

When I was making another batch of crisps the other day I wanted to elevate them – and as I had some cooked bacon in the fridge it seemed like a fantastic addition. And then as I love low carb spicy food, adding some heat seemed like an obvious choice – but of course it is optional!

How to Make Spicy Bacon Parmesan Crisps

Cut a slice of cooked bacon into small crumbles. You could also use bacon bits – just make sure they're 100% bacon and not “bacon flavored bits”!

In a bowl, mix together the bacon with shredded Parmesan, onion powder, and chipotle powder. You could also use cayenne if you prefer.

Divide the mixture between 16 holes of a non-stick mini muffin pan

Place under a preheated broiler until the cheese has melted – depending on how far away from the elements they are this can take 1-3 minutes.

Leave the crisps to cool in the muffin pan for 10 minutes for them to crisp up. You might want to leave them on a wire cooling rack for an extra 5 minutes if needed.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup finely shredded Parmesan
  • 1 slice cooked bacon, chopped into small crumbles
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp chipotle powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the broiler to high.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the shredded Parmesan, bacon, onion powder, and chipotle powder. You could also use cayenne if you prefer.
  3. Divide the mixture between 16 holes of a non-stick mini muffin pan. 
  4. Place under a preheated broiler until the cheese has melted - depending on how far away from the elements they are this can take 1-3 minutes. 
  5. Leave the crisps to cool in the muffin pan for 10 minutes for them to crisp up.
